Could women go to the agora in Ancient Sparta freely?
I am doing a report for school and need an answer quickly. I can’t find it on the web, so I went to this site. I’m supposed to be a pottery maker in Ancient Sparta, so I needed to know whether women were allowed to own a shop in Sparta’s agora to sell the pottery, or I had to wait for my husband to run the shop?
For those of you who don’t know what the agora is, it is the MARKETPLACE.
I know they couldn’t in Athens*, but I was making sure in Sparta.
*If they were with their husbands, I think they could in Athens.
Also, if you know any, what are some good Greek names for a female in Sparta?
Yes, they could. Sparta was actually really big on woman’s rights. It was mainly because they had basically no chose, as the men were off at war. All Spartan men for some 20+ years in the military. So it was “Let women be normal members of society” or “Have no productive people at all.” The Kings quickly grew to support women.
But you could go. It’d actually be fairly common place, too. The market would be full of old men, young girls, infants, and women.
P.S. Anastasia could be a fairly good Greek name. Or Dorothea. Both were Greek names.

Hypselodoris edenticulata Greek Goddess Nudibranch
$19.99 The Greek Goddess Nudibranch ( Hypselodoris edenticulata ) is stunning black with bright yellow markings. It is one of the few colorful Caribbean nudibranchs in the aquarium trade. Hypselodoris edenticulata has recently been thought to be a possible color morph of Hypselodoris picta . The actual scientific classification is still debated, depending on the reference source. The term "nudibranch" means "naked gill" and refers to the fringy, tassel-like gills visible on many species. This group include animals that we commonly refer to as "sea slugs" as well as the sea hares popular for algae control. As a group, there is not much known about many species of nudibranch and more are being discovered and reclassified continuously. While some like the sea hares are well studied and we know enough about their lif cycles and diets for them to be maintained, the diet and requirements of most nudibranchs is largely unknown. Most are thought to feed on sponges, polyps, tunicates. Some of the most colorful nudibranchs are actively collected and sold for aquariums but many more come as "hitchhikers" on rock and corals, for better or for worse. Use caution when placing any nudibranch in your reef system if its diet is an unknown. Nudibranchs in aquariums are generally shortlived, both due to their natural short lifespans as well as the difficulty of meeting their dietary requirements.
