I am rewiring an antique hanging light fixture with 5 arms, each of which will hold a 60 watt light bulb, base
down in a new socket (no problem with that part). My question is, is 18 gauge wire ok for this – it is what will easily fit through the arms of the fixture, 16 gauge will not. I could, tho, use the 16 gauge in the middle part of the fixture where the five wires from the arms come together, would I/should I do that? Thanks.
Before you go to #18 did you try woven wire, #16?
Your idea will work, I would not be afraid of doing it as you suggest.
