If you have just a white black and ground, then you have no neutral and can’t put an outlet there. My feeling is that you were using the bare ground wire as a neutral(which is illegal). The white is hot and teh black is the switch leg going back to the light. You need to pull a circuit from teh panel in this case. The code is to have either a circuit feeding the outlet only or it can feed teh lights and outlets of a single bathroom only. I know this is a remodel, but do the right thing and pull anew 20 amp circuit.
