First - the wires bonded (wire nuts) and leave them alone who are completing a circuit. I would suggest that p / ua tester ... .12 - $ 15.00 at hardware stores or home center. Ok I will run through some of the most likely scenario is that the black wire was the power of the fan, and the red wire was the power of light in the fan, (if the fan had a light) is common white wire and connect the white wire in your new lamp. The circuit tester would be helpful to figure out what red wire or black () is being controlled by the change or if you have two switches, I suspect, (one for light and one for the fan and that) switch controls which cable. What you need for your light is red or black thread (which is controlled by the switch) connected to the black wire of your new lamp, along with the target as mentioned above. You do not say anything about a ground wire. (bare or green) You may or may not have, depending on age and type of cabling. If you do not have a floor, bare wire bond or green of the new lamp to a bolt in the picture ... .. (you may be running armored cable, in which case the table is based)
