One of the most sought after collectibles in both new and vintage lighting are glass fairy lamps. This type of light was invented by Samuel Clarke in the late 1800′s and generally used as a night light. Usually lit by a candle in floating water, it originally had a paper shade. This lamp caught on quickly and became quite popular. It was produced by many companies and many versions of the little lamp were manufactured. The paper shade was soon replaced with glass and some became very elegant.

Companies like Mosser, Indiana Glass, LE Smith, Viking, Westmoreland and Fenton began manufacturing these lamps. Many of the patterns and glass types in early production were crafted from a practical standpoint and they weren’t all that pretty. which is better crystal salt lamps … or the crystal salt candle holders?

I was thinking of getting on for my mother for her birthday .. and im not sure where to start. Should i start out small and get her a small candle holder or go big and get her a salt lamp? Is there a big difference in the benefits with each?

in general the salt content is similar and therefore providing her the same benefits.

A number of benefits can be obtained from crystal salt but the main one is air ionizing effect thru its salt property. So assuming that is your main goal – clean air. then lamp is better than burner. This is because burner also use up more oxygen which is less healthier.

salt lamp doesn’t necessary have to be ‘big’, a small one could cost $5-10 each but depends on where you are, after adding shipping cost it may sum up higher.
