The spring is a great time to consider changing or updating your bedrooms’ styles. Tip 2: Let the Sun Shine In

After you’ve elected what designs and styles you would like to achieve, now it’s time to focus on the window treatments. If you enjoy copious amounts of sunshine, hanging lighter colored shades, drapes or blinds is probably the best solution for you. Or, if you enjoy dark, rich colors, purchase a material that can be easily raised or drawn aside to allow the light to enter into the room. Not only will this add to your bedroom’s style but also it will cut down on the cost of electricity-and that’s something everyone can appreciate nowadays!

Tip 3: Air it Out

Believe it or not, adding a ceiling fan to any bedroom is a crucial aspect to any room’s design and style. While you may get creative with the paneling for the ceiling fan, its benefits are equal no matter what the design. Depending on the season and temperature, correctly using a ceiling fan can help circulate cool and warm air, respectively. During warmer months, allowing the fan to run counter clockwise helps move the cool air throughout the room; if you are standing directly below the fan, you should feel a cooling sensation on your skin. Conversely, switching your fan’s direction to clockwise during colder months helps draw heated air down and evenly distributes the air throughout the room, keeping your toes toasty and warm.

In addition to ceiling fans, be sure to check your screens and air conditioning filters. Before you open your windows and allow the cool, crisp air into your home, you should rinse or hose them down with water to remove dust and other particles that collect over the winter months.

Tip 4: Add the Accessories

As you finish up your bedroom remodeling project, you should take time to step back and evaluate your hard work. Is anything missing? Most likely, you’ve overlooked the fact that your cabinet hardware is outdated or needs replacing. By updating your cabinet hardware, you can accent your newly designed room, as well as your bedroom furniture. Choose between a variety of materials such as colored glass, chrome, brass, copper, iron, stainless steel and nickel. Definitely have the bedrooms, family room and kitchen wired for ceiling fans and have the plumbing for a bath roughed in on the basement level.
Extra padding under the carpet does extend its life. Do it throughout the house, if you can afford it. Otherwise, at least in the heavy traffic areas like the family room, living room and dining room.
The rest of the upgrades can wait until you’re ready to replace. If black appliances are the same cost as white, but less than stainless, go with the black. You can always upgrade at a later date, when your budget isn’t as tight.
An air filter and humidifier are not really worth the money.
Go with neutral colors, especially for the carpeting and vinyl. It really helps to maintain a resale value.
