Basic research online, through historical records or via conversational updates set the scene for our brains to build the initial mental scaffolding in which we will later hang further details as they emerge, and as necessary for our short or longer term purposes.

Finally, taking advantage of our initial paying attention and multi-sensory inputs, we funnel and house the information received into mental filing cabinets through memory systems. Just as we are more likely to find our keys as we dash out the door in the morning if we have put them in the same place each evening, information thoughtfully stored will be more easily and quickly accessed if we have a regular place to store it.

One simple system is called the Roman Room, after, guess who, those structured ancient Romans! Imagine a square room. Count off clockwise 1-4 by labeling each corner at ceiling level and labeling the mechanical ceiling fan in the center of the room is number as 5.
