The blue wire should connect to the black wires. It’s the line voltage for your light kit. And the white wires should all be together just as you have them. Which only leaves the ground. You didn’t mention how you ground it. It should go to the bare copper wire which I’m sure you know.

Sounds more to me like you just happened to get one with a bad light kit but it’s hard to know without putting a meter on it. I would take the light kit off and take it back to where you bought it. Usually they’ll just give you another one from another new one and you won’t have to take the whole fan down, unless you bought the light kit separately which is no problem then.
