Bathroom light fixtures are an important part of the bathroom style and function.

Options

There are many options. There are some very simple ones that are set in the ceiling. These simple fixtures usually hold up to four light bulbs and hug the ceiling and are usually covered with a simple frosted glass shade. These simple light fixtures were historically controlled by a chain or a string that was pulled to turn the light on or off, now they are typically controlled by a light switch on the wall. Another popular option for these is to have the lighting fixture mounted on the wall. These types can be in the form of sconces mounted usually next to the bathroom mirror or track lights mounted above the bathroom mirror. Some of these ones that are mounted to the wall can be quite ornate and elaborate. There are also bathroom light fixtures that hang from the ceiling as a pendant light. The goal is to produce a lighting atmosphere that is as close to natural as possible. There is a recent trend toward using unconventional lighting options in the bathroom to include chandeliers.

Purchasing Them

They can be purchased at any home improvement store, lighting fixture store and many discount warehouse stores. They will run the gamut of pricing; there are many variables that affect the cost of them. Designer ones will be much more expensive than generics. Craftsmanship also plays a role in the cost of them. The more ornate they are the more they will cost.

Installing Them

Installing bathroom light fixtures will require a general knowledge of electrical wiring. Usually it is a matter of connecting one or two wires than mounting the fixture. Some folks feel very uncomfortable undertaking any job that has anything to do with electrical wiring, if that is the case hiring a professional might be in order. Installing bathroom light fixtures should only take about an hour, depending on the size of the fixture and the location of the fixture. It is not a big job but it is a job that needs to be done right.

Bathroom light fixtures can really enhance the décor of the bathroom they are functional, style does not have to be sacrificed for function. They come in an array of styles and pricing, a style and something that fits into everyone’s budget is available.

Installing a ceiling fan?

I’ve replaced a light fixture with a ceiling fan in my bedroom. The fan part of the works fine, but the light part isn’t working. Is this due to old wiring (the house was built in the 40′s) that doesn’t have the watts/amps to power the new fixture? What can I do about this? Is it a hazard in anyway?
The wiring is hooked up right. I did test each wire (light wire and fan wire) on the positive house wire, the fan worked and the lights came on, but were very dim. But when I put both wires on the house wire only the fan works and i don’t get any light.
