Help with a ceiling fan installation?
I replaced an old ceiling fan with a new one that includes a light kit. I have black, white and pure copper wire coming from the ceiling. I connected the white to white, green to copper and to the ground screw on the bracket and the black and blue wires to black. When I turn on the light switch the fan turns on, however the light must be operated with the pull cord. I wanted it to work just the opposite, light controlled by switch and fan by pull cord. Did I connect something wrong? Do I need additional wiring?
You need to connect both the fan and the light to the light switch, even though you’re going to use the light switch for the light, and the pull chain for the fan. The diagram below (in the FIRST link) shows how the connections should be made.
