If you are looking for cheap lamp shades for a lamp that does not currently have a shade then you generally want to find a shade that is roughly the same height as the lamp itself. Measure the lamp from the bottom of the base to the bottom of the bulb socket. This is your shade height.

Different lamps use different methods of securing their shades. Your replacement shade should use the same method. Many lamps have a “harp”, which bends around each side of the bulb. The shade is then fixed to the top of the harp with a finial.

Other lamps require shades that use “UNO” fittings that secure to the lamp at the bottom of the bulb. Another type of shade clips directly to the body of the light bulb itself.

Once you’ve determined the type of shade you need and the shade dimensions you can compare them to other new or pre-owned shades online or else bring the information and photographs to a lampshade dealer and find the cheap lamp shades that just feel right.

A good thick-gauge wire frame will help to insure that the shade keep its shape over time. It’s also important to look for a shade made with a nice, thick fabric so that the bulb won’t be seen through the side.
