Ceiling fan?
I bought a ceiling fan with a remote control , I have everything wired like the instructions and diagrams.I have a RED wire comming from the house electrical.IBelive it has something to do with the smoke detector because the light on the smoke detector is blinking very fast unlike the others in the house.I guess i need to know does it go with the white or the black.
In the US, the color code for electrical wiring is white for neutral and black for the hot wire. Red is used when there may be a second hot wire, as in the case of a ceiling fan that also has a light. That way you can control the fan and the light separately. If your fan does not include a light, the white wire must be connected to the white wire in the junction box. The other wire is connected to the black or red wire.
If your smoke detector is blinking rapidly, it has nothing to do with the ceiling fan. Perhaps that is an indication that the battery in the smoke detector needs to be changed soon.
