Fluorescence occurs when electric current is passed through a tube filled with gases making it emit light. Incandescence occurs when electric current passes through a filament held gas. This is the case for ordinary light bulbs. There is also another kind of lighting referred to as LED. The light emitting diode is a low energy consumption device that is mainly used for indicators. Although it does not produce enough light to replace the ordinary or fluorescent bulbs it can be used to make exit or emergency lights especially in the case of large hallways.
With the correct type of lighting, you can improve safety and decorations along your hallway. When deciding to light up your hall, creativity is the key guiding principle. With the correct ideas you can make the process even more fun. The first consideration you should have in your mind is the size of the fixture. It should be proportional to the available space and should provide enough light. This means that a large hallway will need an equally large light fixture.
The second consideration you should take into account is safety of the lighting device you choose. Do not look at the decorative aspect provided by the chandeliers or sconces and fail and ignore the safety implications. Since hallways and stairways are in constant use, they should be well lit. Caution should be exercised to avoid light fixtures that produce dazzling light which can be a safety hazard. The light fixtures should also be placed eight to ten feet away in case of a long hallway.
If you decide to install sconces they should be fixed above eye level about six feet from the floor. You should also have a ceiling fixture to add a warmer atmosphere and make the hallway more attractive. To make the hallway look more homely you can have a lamp or a pant stand on a table. The fixtures you use should match with your overall home decor or color scheme.
Finally the type of hallway lighting you choose really matters. There are several types of lighting that you can use. The first option is flush mounted or recessed lighting. This offer sufficient light as well as a clean look. The only setback is that this type of lighting needs to be done by a professional which means you will spend some more. Another option is installing track lights. These can be easily directed to any direction you choose. You can direct it to a wall to highlight an artwork, or downward to light up a path or you can focus it to a corner where other forms of lighting do not reach.
Sometimes it’s possible to get matching wall sconces and ceiling fixtures. These should also match with the overall color scheme. Hanging a mirror on the hallway can also serve to reflect the light from your lighting device leaving your hallway with evenly distributed light. Shopping for hallway lighting fixtures is also much simpler these days since there are many online retailers who will also advice you on the best way to use the fixtures to achieve your objectives.

Emergency lighting for vehicles?
I have a 1998 ford ranger that I use for utility mapping which means I am on the roadside of highways, major roads ect. I am out in all types of weather so mainly sunlight is my biggest problem. What would be the best solution for warning lights for my vehicle, LED’s
strobes?? which would i get the most noticability with, I REALLY want to be seen.
Strobes are going to use a whole lot less power than a conventional beacon light. I would go with a strobe setup, built into the existing light fixtures. You may want to consider a strobe light bar also, with an “arrow bar” that directs away from your vehicle.
