A deck can be a great place where people can get together for an enjoyable day. However, once the sun goes down, need the fun go along with it? Innovations in lighting over the past several years have opened up more possibilities for illuminated decks. The use of flood lights, candles, or even the infamous tiki torch is decreasing over time.

Today, there are LED deck lights that can be safely placed on, around, or even in decks. These lights are superior to others in an assortment of ways.

First, there is the concern of safety. For many people, lighting that contains some sort of flame seems to be the only option. However, there are plenty of downsides to this; even a gently breeze could blow out the flame, the light could fall over and cause a bigger fire, or someone may even accidentally touch it and burn themselves. That’s not a problem with LED deck lights. They can be placed anywhere and they exert very little heat. Therefore, there is often no need to worry about anyone burning themselves. This is particularly helpful when children are around.

Another great feature of LED deck lighting is that they use hardly any energy. LED bulbs are becoming the standard in efficient lighting, seeing as they use so little of it. Some lights can be mounted as post caps so that they sit on top of the deck posts. Others are mounted inside the posts so that they lay flush up against the side of it. This is especially convenient for those who want a sleek, sophisticated look without having to worry about anything getting knocked from its place or bent. While there are still numerous styles, one more popular option is of the “lamp” looking lights. These can be mounted to a vertical surface and hang like a lamp.

There are many viable, safe, and cost efficient ways to use LED deck lighting in order to illuminate an area. It is becoming an increasingly popular option that can be considered by almost anyone.

Does anyone know how to remove oxidation from exterior lighting fixtures?

I installed all new low voltage exterior landscape lighting three years ago. The fixtures now have fairly noticable oxidation. I believe that they are powder coated cast aluminum. I have 20 path lights, a large five lamp pole fixture, and several floods that all have the same problem.

You can use car polish to remove the oxidation and restore the original color but to be honest, that is what Al does. If you clean it all up, in 3 years it will oxidize again. It’s the exposure to ultraviolet radiation that is the culprit.
