From what you have provided, I think you have a low voltage lamp. That makes it more complicated for you will have to remove most all the parts before you redo it. That other part of this process is whether you can fit a standard bulb where your existing bulb is now. I would recommend going to a quality lighting showroom. We usually carry all the parts you may need or will be able to order parts. Take your lamp with you so they can help determine what you will need.
At the same time they may be able to find out why you seem to be having the problems that you have. They can also get long life bulbs that may help.
