How can I open a fluorescent light fixture in a drop ceiling?
This is a drop ceiling in a 70s era basement. The fluorescent fixtures are recessed into the ceiling with plastic covers that the light shines through. It’s the typical flourescent fixture. I thought one side would have a hinge and the other side would drop down, allowing you to get to the bulbs. But I’ve tried many times and can’t figure out how to get it open. Neither side seems to open easily. One side has what looks like metal clips that I assumed were holding the non-hinged side in place, but they don’t seem to come loose.
Sometimes you have to use a small screwdriver to budge the small metal clips, that swing down to release the frame of the lens. then the frame will swing down to gain access to the bulbs. Then, again some will slide to one end to let down the lens ( plastic cover ) to get at the bulbs.
