Why won’t a 4ft fluorescent lamp light when I apply voltage.?
Ok, Here’s the deal. I had to replace over 200- 4 ft 32watt lamps with 28 watt lamps. The problem was They didn’t immediately light unless the lamps were rubbed/caressed/stroked while energized. sounds weird, I know. (The result of firmly rubbing the lamps was a reaction similar to when you put your hands on that “lightning ball” to see the weird -pink and purple color- static electricity). Then the lamps would fire up.
Make certain the fixtures are well grounded and all metallic shields and gaurds are in placeand also grounded. You were acting as a ground reference to “draw the arc” to the other electrode.
