The main reason is that the Credit Card companies charge a fee and VISA/MC does not allow a merchant to charge Credit Customers more. There is nothing that says that they can’t make it a “Cash Discount”, but Arco just doesn’t deal with it at all. With a Debit/ATM card they are still charged a fee but there is no such restrictions. Which is why they will charge you an extra $0.45 to use your ATM Card.

This is almost, but not totally, universal with Arco’s. There are some Arco’s that do accept credit cards. In this area I have seen 1 that accept credit cards. But since there are probably 50+ stations in the same area it is still a very small percentage.
