Electrical regulations in the UK?
I have made an electric stained glass table lamp. I have made the complete lamp and bought the electrical fittings which I have wired and fitted myself. If I wanted to sell it, what UK electrical regulations would I need to ensure I had complied with?
I know electrical items in an office have to be PAT tested regularly to ensure their safety. Would a person who does PAT testing be the person who would be able to ensure that I have followed the electrical regulations and that my lamp is safe. (I know it is, but I realise I could not sell it without jumping through the necessary hoops.)
I would appreciate answers only from those who really know the UK regulations, thanks.
Before you can sell it, it needs CE certification. For a single item, that will cost considerably more than you are likely to sell the lamp for.
The usual arrangement for small scale craft makers is to sell the lamp as a decorative piece and say that any electrical fittings are provided solely as a guide to how the product may be used. Whether that’s legal won’t be finally decided until someone blows themselves up.
