Always remember that darker shades are easier to maintain and keep clean than lighter colors, since the dust tends to show lesser.

Another aspect that you may want to consider is the lasting of the looks. Something that looks good today is great, but will the same looks last long? If you like a design that has a wrought iron finish, how safe would it remain from rust? If you like a shade with a golden colored finish, then is the color a stable one or is it susceptible to water and moisture? Always remember to ask these questions before you decide to make a choice. These are critical to keep up the looks in the longer term.

To make your pendant lighting fixture effective, the practical usefulness also has to be considered in parallel to the looks. What are you going to use this lighting for? Is it going to be installed in your study room or your dining table top? If so then go for longer pendant lighting fixtures so that the bottom of the light hangs low. That will give you a good brightness. If the objective is not brightness but the width of spread of the light dispersion then go for a pendant fixture that will hang high up. That will let the light flow to every portion of the room or corridor, although with a somewhat lesser illumination. As long as the illumination is enough for you to see comfortably, the installation is good enough.

Run some tests first, also to get the right color. I might try to use some 500W (equivalent) fluorescents. Parabolic reflectors with the lights will also help.
A lot depends on how light sensitive the camcorder is. 1 or 2 lumens should do fine. Dark or light costumes will also make a difference.
