I’ve installed a lot of remotes and it sounds like you have a short somewhere. When you say you hear a pop, that would be the wires shorting out. Does it blow the fuse or trip the breaker? I would check that first. Also, a past employee of mine who said he knew all about installing remotes installed one for my partner but he reversed the polarity. He got the hot(black) and common(white) wires backwards and that fried the receiver, melted the casing, and almost started a fire. He no longer works for me. So be careful. Check the wires thoroughly for exposed metal. Make sure you check the polarity. Don’t take it for granted that black is hot and white is common. Check it with a meter or other tester. And if your not sure, call an electrician. He’ll have it sussed out in no time.
