Height to hang a dining chandelier trimmings?

I'm trying to determine the right height to hang my new DR Chandalier. I read that a good rule-of-gold is 30 "above the table when you have 8 'ceilings. The Chandalier I bought has 6 branches that arch downwards, so that the center of the lamp is 3" more higher than the lowest point of the arms. Should I hang the lamp so that the center is 30 "from the top of the table, or should be 30" at the lowest point (s say, the end of the arms)?

I would say that 30 inches above the lowest point. I think it also might depend on what type of device you have -- large and small, dramatic or simple. You could probably get away with that big one up higher than a smaller one.
