Would you call Home Depot if you filled an app. and they have openings listed?

I have seen on 2 different websites that the Home Depot near me was hiring, and for positions that I applied for. I’m still interested in the job should I call them and find out if they really do have the openings and let them know i’m still interested?

Thanks

Go in. Dress in khakis and a nice shirt, no jeans yet. Speak kindly and respectfully to all parties. However, understand this: Having worked in a large department store, I often handed out the applications to the people interested in working there. I was charged with the initial screening, just on the basis of dress. If they were dressed inappropriately, I was to put a large X in the top corner of the application and those folks would not be hired. If they were chewing gum, same thing. If they were there with their buddies for support, same thing. If they yacked on the cell phone just prior to seeing me, an X. The management philosophy was that there were enough good employees out there I had to remove from the pile those folks who did not understand the work culture … I’ve told you this since you could already have been screened and found lacking. So put the best foot forward, and give it a try. However, if you don’t get it, try a different track — ask a manager what skills, availability, or personal issues might have improved your employability? For instance, maybe you have a set school schedule and they felt they were unable to let you dictate your work hours. OK, you can understand. Maybe you were too flirtatious and they don’t want customers dealing with that. OK, you can learn. Maybe you don’t have a contractor’s license and Home Depot employees in that department have theirs. OK. And just maybe you have no work experience and they never start folks out with this as their first job. OK — you understand. (Follow up question there — how much work experience do you want? Is there a particular type which would be better for me?[McDonalds vs. the local nursery or such])

Good luck!
