Ceiling fans have become very important across the United States regardless of what type of climate you reside in. They assist in allowing us to sleep on those hot summer nights and aid us in the winter by re-freshening dry stale air.

It all started with a rod connected fan base that is attached to any room ceiling high enough to support it. But – technology grew by leaps and bounds and now ceiling fans are manufactured for those with lower ceiling rooms that were once left out in the cold. They named them Hugger fans.

Most of these ceiling fans have no center rod and the base is mounted on the ceiling, placing the fan blades higher up allowing more area space in the room. However if so desired, you can purchase one with a metal rod that is smaller than normal providing an adjustment option depending upon your preference of distance from ceiling to the floor.

Because of the uniqueness in design the chances for Hugger fans to be less effective in circulating the air is very high. This is basically due to the distance between the small amount of space between fan blades and the ceiling. However, since the Hugger ceiling fan have grown in popularity and thanks to major competition, advancement has been made in the market and for a little bit more money, a lot more satisfaction can be had.

Not just practicality is in play now but also availability for added appeal to your ceilings. With an assortment of styles and a mixture of designs the prospects are endless as Hugger fans are produced with both small and large blades, preferable desired airflow capabilities and the option to have or not have lighting.

And installation, while it might not be a snap it is very doable. All you need to do is pull the wires down and through a small holed box, hang the motor, attach each blade and if there is a light kit with it – screw in the light bulbs. Yep, for the average person it’s fairly easy to do.
