Novice/Amateur Photographer, Help anyone?

I look forward to starting classes next year however, I would like to know what I can do now…..I have film, but for a person on a budget, I’d like to know where I could get some nice backgrounds and good lighting for some indoor shots. I went out and brought Ilford’s B/W 400 speed film, and a 80A filter, and I’ve read previously on Yahoo that I could get some working lights but, do I purchase the ones that clamp and hang or does it even matter? And while i’m at it, what are some good ideas for my shots?

I always suggest getting a copy of “Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition” by George M. Craven.

Another good text is “Understanding Exposure: How To Take Great Photos With A Film or Digital camera” by Bryan Peterson.

Go to http://www.shutterbug.com and enter ‘steve bedell’ in the Search box. Read every article he has written about light and how to use it. He is a Master Photographer so he’s well worth listening to.

Visit your library and look for books by the late Monte Zucker. He was a Master Portrait Photographer and his books on lighting and posing are excellent guides.
