Red Eared Sliders are not semi aquatic but area actually AQUATIC turtles and need a lot of water to swim in. I own a florida cooter turtle which requires the same setup and care as a red eared slider and I have owned red eared sliders in the past as well. The tank needs to be a 120 gallon tank or larger. With a baby turtle you can get by with a 50 gallon tank for the first year and than after that you will need to upgrade. They need a floating basking area of some sort or a basking area outside of the tank (I have pictures to describe this). You can always put river rocks on the bottom of the tank for decoration and keeps your turtles entertained as they move them around.. do not use gravel as it isn’t good for turtles.

Edible plants that are great for your turtle are: Anacharis, hornwort, duckweed, frogbit, water lettuce, water hyacinth, and most fresh water pond plants.
