I have a very stressful job. I work with high-risk teenagers and at the end of the day I just want to come home, calm down and relax. I have listed six free but effective things that I do to help me to relax and calm down after a stressful day at work. These things are: 1) Talk to someone 2) Take a hot bath 3) Read the Bible 4) Listen to music 5) Rest and 6) Laugh
#1 Talk To Someone
If you have a lot of pinned up emotions inside of you, you are going to need to be able to talk to someone about your feelings or you are going to explode. My sister and I have agreed to call each other daily to discuss how our day went. My sister is an ideal person for me to talk to because I am emotional and she is more logical. Usually, after I talk with her I see things from a logical perspective and I stop taking every thing so personal.
#2 Take A Hot Bath
One of my favorite ways to relax is to light scented candles, dim my bathroom lights and take a long hot bubble bath. Taking a hot bubble bath is therapeutic for me because the heat from the bubble bath and the aroma from the scented candles are so soothing. After I have finished taking my bubble bath I am not only relaxed, I am calm because I have allowed enough time to pass for me to have released my stress from the earlier part of the day.
#3 Read The Bible
The Bible is full of inspirational and encouraging scriptures. The Bible also teaches you that there is a Higher Source who loves you and cares about your well-being. Reading the Bible helps me to calm down because I am reminded that I am not by myself in my struggles. The Bible also offers practical steps that you can apply to help you to manage your stress and deal with your daily struggles.
#4 Listen To Music
When I am having a hectic day at work, I enjoy listening to soft, relaxing music as a way of calming down. Technology has made it easy to access music in an instant. Instead of waiting to go home and listen to music on my CD player, I can download music on my Blackberry, Mp3 player or stream my favorite music videos on my laptop.
# 5 Rest
What I have discovered about myself is that when I do not get enough rest I am cranky. If I go to work cranky then I am not being fair to my peers or the teenagers that I work with. I make it a point to get plenty of sleep and I also make it a point to take a day of rest from work. When I take rest from work, I try to do something enjoyable for myself and I try to spend quality time with my family and my friends.
# 6 Laugh
I love to laugh and I make it a point to surround myself around people who have a healthy sense of humor. Laughing helps me to calm down and relax after a stressful day at work because laughing is a positive way for me to release my stress. I try not to take life so serious and laughing helps me to find humor in my situation.

There is one in each of my bathrooms. I love them. I really don’t know what it would cost to have them installed. Hopefully you know someone that can do it for you. Electricians are not cheap.
