Can I wire christmas lights into an old light fixture in order to turn on/off with the light switch?
I have an outdoor light fixture at the door leading to a covered porch. The porch was added on, and now has overhead lighting, so the old light fixture at the door is never used. I would like to install string lights (or christmas lights) around the interior perimeter of the porch for soft year round lighting and wondering if I could wire them directly into the old light fixture so that I may operate them with the existing light switch. I would be removing the old light fixture.
You can go to the hardware store and buy an adaptor that goes in to the light socket this adaptor has a plug in on it that turns the light in to plug. Please don’t wire your lights direct! Doing that may cost you alot more the a $10.00 adaptor! I don’t know much about ele. wiring, but I do know this much..By the way the switch will still turn on and off your lights.
