Right. You can’t make kerosene out of whale blubber. The fuel oil that people use that is extracted from whale blubber is called “whale oil,” and at one time it was very commonly used for lamps and cookstoves. In fact kerosene became popular because it was a good substitute for whale oil and it was cheaper as the whale population declined through the 19th Century.

So what you are thinking of is whale oil. You extract it by crushing the blubber in a hydraulic press or under a screw jack. The oil just runs out and you catch it in a drip pan underneath. You have to move fast, though, because it will evaporate like any other volatile fuel oil. And you may be disappointed at how little oil you get from one whale.
