Why are there no lampposts on Yonge Street in Toronto?
In downtown Toronto I noticed that there aren’t any lampposts on Yonge Street, which doesn’t make any sense to me. It is a very busy street for shoppers, so why aren’t there any street lamps on it? Every other street, such as Jarvis and Dundas have lamp posts on both sides of the street, but Yonge Street doesn’t. Was this done to created more room for pedestrians on the sidewalk?
There is enough lighting from shops and businesses, thus lamp post lighting is unnecessary and costly.
