Now is decision time. My sewing machine needs attention and although it has not died completely yet, I know it is only a matter of time. I will nurse it along for as long as possible but it seems prudent to start thinking about the kinds of features I would want in a new sewing machine now.

I am being drawn to some of the brother machines for lots of good reasons. This is what I found while researching sewing machines.

The kinds of decisions I need to make have to do with just how much I expect to use a sewing machine these days. Years ago I used to make a lot of my own clothes and then when I had children I would make baby and toddler clothes as well. These days the kids are more fussy about what they will wear and I just don’t seem to get as much time to sew anymore. But I still have a need for a machine even if it only gets used for mending or an occasional project such as curtains or cushion covers or fancy dress costumes.

I do have a couple of immediate projects I could take on if I am so inclined. In any case it got me started researching exactly what sewing machine I can get for my as yet un-allocated budget.

Things have changed a lot since I bought my first machine. And since that was more than thirty years ago, that is the only time I have ever bought one. The highlight then was the button-hole stitch.

The model that stands out for me is the Brother CS6000I. Firstly, it has a large selection of different stitches covering the standard mending and garment construction stitches through decorative, heirloom and quilting as well as seven styles of one-step auto-sizing buttonholes.

I love the automatic needle threading feature. As I am getting older I am finding needle threading a particularly tedious chore and this is just so easy on the Brother sewing machines. I also like the easy drop in bobbin feature and the easy snap on feet.

There is also a walking foot to make stitching slippery fabrics and multiple layers much easier to do.

This particular machine has everything I need for my sewing needs plus a whole lot more.

I am yet to make my decision but the Brother CS6000I is looking very appealing.
