Ceiling fan won’t work, but light fixture does?

I’ve got a typical ceiling fan, and I go to turn it on and the lights work fine, but the fan has a problem. It started making a weird buzzing noise, started turning very slowly, then about 10 seconds later the noise stopped along with the fan blades. Now the fan is non-responsive all together. No noise, no spinning from the blades, nothing. I get the same result on all speed settings. This fan is just a few years old, and has worked fine before with nothing bad to speak of. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for the help.

Apparently nobody reads the actual question! You say that the light works but the fan won’t, correct. If anybody has ever installed a ceiling fan before they would already know that the wires for the light and fan are the same at the wall plate so don’t worry about that. If you want to check the wires then at the ceiling fan connections is the only place you would need to check. I doubt that is your problem, it will be your motor that is the problem. With the low cost of ceiling fans now days you will want to go to your local hardware store and purchase a new one.
