The number of gallons does not let you “bend the rules”. Water conditions for African rift lake cichlids and South American cichlids prefer VERY different water conditions. Rift lake fish like very hard, very alkaline (pH of about 8.0-8.2), while South American cichlids prefer soft, acidic (6.0-6.5, or lower) water conditions. Unless you can magically separate water conditions in the tank, the size isn’t going to help you.

As far as bringing out the colors, you need to look at the spectrum of individual bulbs. Ones with a lower Kelvin (K) rating will give you more color in the green/yellow/orange/red spectrums. Common Kelvin ratings in this area are 5500 and 6700K. 10,000K and higher you get into the more blue spectrum, which will, obviously, highlight blue colorations. Mixing two or more bulbs will give you highlights in multiple spectrums.
