Firstly, I work for Jessops, i will give you best info that I can give..

Nikon and Canon are the best out there, quality wise, Canon are more simple and easy to use (hense why I have one myself) Dont spent alot on the body when you dont need a pro camera. a Canon 1000d is more than enough for you what you want to do. and its the smallest lightest of their models, and cheapest too.

Lenses are whats important with what you want to do. There is a 50mm macro, and 60mm macro and a few others but you are looking at expensive. the best i can think of for what you are doing is a 50mm macro leans. its fantastic. You can also buy a conversion lens that makes is life size so 1:1 ratio. (look on canons website for more info on that or Jesops stores all have a lens guide book for free)

I have taken photos of Jewellry before and i did with a 60mm macro and it worked perfectly with my friends small lighting system.

Go canon, you cant go wrong. The cheapest of the Nikons which is coming out soon wich is the D3000 which replaces the nikon d60 is more expensive, what you want to do is spend the extra cash on the lens not the body.. think about it, you dont need the high mega pixels for websites…

Canon G10, its compact, you dont need to buy any other lenses because the macro function that is already at its best!!! Its fantactic!!!! You can get sooo much detail (another camera I LOVE) dubbed the compact DSLR because of the quality and manual functions (same as an DSLR) and it will work out cheaper too as you dont have to buy any more lenses…. go try it out in Jessops store! It is the best compact out there for your budget too!
