Never use a heat rock. These are notorious for malfunctioning and causing serious burns.

As suggested – a CHE, which is a lightless heat emitter, is excellent for night set-ups. Even the red lights at night can sometimes bother the reptile and can keep the temps too high. They do need to cool down at night – and some species actually do better with the very low temps. Not knowing what kind of reptile you have does not allow the right info on temps – so research where it needs to be and adjust accordingly with the heat device you choose.
