casualty or theft form 4684?

My bedroom ceiling collapsed over the summer, and I paid out of pocket to have it replaced. My insurance refused to cover it claiming that it happened because of poor workmanship (the house was built in 1941, how is that my fault?)
Anyway, I was wondering if I could take the money I spent replacing it as a casualty deduction on my taxes. I was looking at the worksheet and they need to know the market value before and after the accident. How in the world to you place a value on a ceiling? I know it cost around $400 to replace the drywall and get a new fan, but we did all the installation and work ourselves. We also had to replace the bed because the matress was ripped apart by the ceiling fan, and everything had that old blown in insulation in it, so can I claim that as part of the casualty as well? Any help in the matter would be appreciated.
