This isn’t quite what you want, but one way to get them (for free or cheap at least), is to go visit your neighbors houses. If any of them have any pieces you want, go to Tom Nook’s and get some paper. Send them a letter with a complete sentence (i.e. I’m glad you are my friend!) with a piece of fruit or sea shell attached. Wait for two mailing periods (usually about 24 hours, mail comes at 9am and 5 pm, so if you mail it out before 9am, you would receive a letter back after 9 am the next day). Your neighbors will send you either fruit or furniture back. Do this for a few days and you will start getting only furniture. If they have a piece of modern furniture, they are more likely to send it to you then someone who does not.

This is also a great way to get other fruit (worth 500 bells each) and tons of furniture!

Also, check the recycling bin every day. Many days in my town, my neighbors put many pieces of furniture in there throughout the week.
