Local burglar caught by the use of an outdoor security camera! We’ve all seen them. The late breaking news broadcast of the local burglar caught on a security camera. Yet, the “Have you seen this man?” is a ridiculous question since more times than not, the actual footage is of such poor quality, it’s hard to recognize any distinguishing characteristics of anything especially, the thug. Other wise you will end up with the same blurry picture often seen on those ineffective broadcasts.

Take a 6 oz. glass and a 12 oz. glass, for example. Fill the 12 oz. glass with water and transfer all of it into the 6 oz. glass. The end result is an overflowing mess. In the same way, a camera with more pixel storage than the linked viewer will result in a distorted image if it does not have the same or greater capacity of pixel space. When it comes to camera security, it’s the image that will determine the quality of protection.

The next important consideration, when it comes to an outdoor security camera, is to evaluate its night time recording abilities. Research the ambient light your camera will be receiving throughout the evening, especially into the early morning hours. If minimal light is available check the camera’s Lux or “minimum illumination rating”. The Lux rating equals the amount of light needed for the camera to be at its peak visual image performance. The lower this Lux rating, the less light the camera needs to capture and record what it sees.

What if the area you want to secure has no light available at all? No worries, there are a variety of security cameras to meet your need. In fact, a Lux rating of zero identifies a camera that is using infrared. Infrared is extremely powerful in that it is imperceptible to the naked eye while needing no light at all to be a effective monitor and recorder.

Though these tend to be pricier than cameras with a higher Lux rating, there are other options to fit into anyone’s budget, just keep in mind this one rule: The lower the Lux the better the camera can protect without the need for light.

Wireless systems also are the best option, due to the fact that the cameras are a small and practical way to monitor your home’s security without needing to install cumbersome, need to be hidden electrical cords. The disadvantage is the maintenance of battery replacement. All systems will alert the home owner when a new battery needs to be installed.
