Every business has a bottom line. They need to turn a profit or they will have to close their doors. Restaurants are much more than places to eat. Owners and managers put a great deal of thought and effort to create a special, magical atmosphere where patrons can enjoy their meals. Candles have long been used to set the mood in restaurants. However, many establishments are switching to small table lamps equipped with low energy candle light bulbs. These lamps are easier to maintain, cost less and are safer than having a flame on the table, especially if children are present. Restaurateurs also like to use decorative lighting on the walls and in the bar area.

Hotels and inns also use lighting to create atmosphere in the private rooms and gathering areas. While the lighting in halls should be sufficiently bright, guests want softer lights in their rooms. Here many managers have added low energy candle light bulbs near beds and tables in addition to regular lights. They also use them in gathering places, such as around a fireplace in a lobby. They can put a candle light on every table and in all the rooms, and they are great for highlighting special areas.

Other business types use soft lighting too, including specialty shops and boutiques. Many antique shops love low energy candle light bulbs because they highlight the vintage furniture and curios, and the soft misty hues take their customers back in time. Many of these smaller shops like to decorate for special holidays, such as Christmas, and candle light bulbs are not only beautiful, but are safe on tables, Christmas trees and on window sills.

The hospitality trades are all about making patrons and guests feel relaxed and comfortable, and lighting is a terrific way to set this mood.
