Can sconces and recessed lights exist together in a hallway and a centrally lit chandelier over the stairs?

I am worried about a busy look by having 2 sconces among a built-in bookshelf and by placing recessed lights in the ceiling next to the bookcase and along a separate dark hallway. Is there a rule w/ hallway sconces and recessed lights or even ceiling pendants? I also have a chandelier that I’d like to place over the stairs. The stairs, unfortunately start right at the front door and go up 11 steps, then make a 90 degree turn to the left for 5 steps. The chandelier would be centered over the stairs. One more question, how tall should the chandelier be for this two story area? Thanks for any advice!

Yes, they coexist well. Having seperate switches for the different lights, will help you set a mood or ambience.
Hard to say if its too busy astheticly without pictures. There are lighting codes for businesses, but your house can be as dark as you want.
They make covers for recessed lighting, that direct the light in one direction. Those can be painted to match your ceiling, and be less visibly noticable.
