When looking at a Tiffany lamp or stained glass window panel, one of the first things you will notice is that almost all include magnificent displays of Natures beautiful expressions of life. Whether it is a wall sconce, table lamp or hanging a lamp, an apparent passion for natural world sparkles throughout these wonderful works of art..

As is well known Tiffany lamps were brought to life by a young artist named Louis Comfort Tiffany in his New York Studios. The son of Charles Tiffany, founder of Tiffany & Co. Jewelers, his intricate and colorful Tiffany lamps were manufactured from the 1880′s through 1924, however, the process that he developed to create these beautiful pieces still continues today.

At the age of 18 Louis Comfort Tiffany began to study with an American landscape artist named George Inness in 1866 learning color, composition and technique. Originally a painter, perhaps his knack for including nature scenes in his works with Tiffany lamps was fostered here in this venue of study. On the other hand, we know that much of the artistic influence of Tiffany was developed throughout the traveling he did while in his twenties. Because he came from a wealthy family, he was able to visit the Middle East, North Africa and more often Europe between the years 1865-1872 gathering the inspirations, that went into his design of glass work. Japanese ceramics, Islamic architecture, as well as, Romanesque and Moorish art proved to be an important part of his artistic evolvement.

Although Tiffany and most of his beginning mosaic glass work was in the form of stained glass windows for churches and high-end buildings, a love for nature can easily be seen in nearly all of his remarkable creations. Along with colorful faun, flowers, and wetlands in his stained glass designs, by the closing of the 1800′s he was casting bronze feathers, wildlife and leaves for the base of some of his Tiffany lamps. Below are listed a couple of examples of his Tiffany lamps creations.

1.) The Honey Locust, was a popular design and has since been molded into a wall sconce Tiffany lamp. A dome shaped decorative lampshade, with petal shaped edges, depicting plum and periwinkle flowers and embraced with spring green leaves on their journey towards the earth.

2.) A Tiffany Studio Classic, the fish scale pattern, is variegated glass of honey dripped colors in emerald, sapphire and garnet. The colored stained glass exhibits a similar brilliance to wet fish scales shimmering in the sunlight. This pattern is used in many styles of Tiffany products including hanging Tiffany lamps.

These early creations by Louis Comfort Tiffany would live on to become the desire of collectors, as well as, beautiful illuminations in many homes around the world.

You can do black on black whiteout any problem if it’s only one wall but you have to soften it up a bit, pick another 1-2 colors to dominate the room and paint one piece of furniture and put it at that wall. Black goes with everything ..
