It’s a compromise. Bigger is better, but of course more cumbersome. I think that the Cullmann from BHPhoto should be good quality, although it’s possible you may covet more size. I have a Cullmann Jet Set. I haven’t experimented a lot with it, but it seems good so far. It can just fit into the detachable daypack of my main pack. It’s heavier than my Cullman, but closes more compactly. The balance point is set to work better with a front heavy DSLR. I’m not crazy about the internal twist locking and unlocking system.

I have a Slik Sprint Pro which has more user friendly clips on the legs. I have used it in the far north on trips where I brought an extra medium size pack. It won’t fit a small daypack.
