I jerked the chain out of the ceiling fan 4-way switch – (off/high/med/low – modes)?
Destroyed the switch during the necropsy (took it beyond all-apart). Auxiliary, and over-riding wall dimmer switch (5-way-off/high/med/low1/low2 ) is involved. With the wall switch/dimmer at off position, I was surprised to find a reduced current still ON at the line in to the ceiling fan switch?? Would this be an indication of a fault with the wall dimmer switch? What’s up with that? Since I do not need two speed switches, and only use the wall switch; to execute a repair, can I bypass the ceiling fan switch and directly wire it (ON) to high speed? – then control from the wall dimmer? If I did that, and was concerned about code compliance, would I be? The ceiling fan switch is wire labeled “1, 2, 3″. Is high speed – #1?
the pull chain switch can be replaced. Lowes/homes depot both have them. Just kill the breaker to the circuit until your done.
I have found many dimmmers over time allow small current bleed through. Change it too while the powers off.
