Exterior accents is a broad term used to describe anything that may be used on the exterior of your home to improve upon the overall look and beauty of your home. The benefit of solar powered lighting is that you don’t need to wire them which give you the freedom to place them where ever you choose. The problem, however, is that the lighting typically isn’t as bright as those that come from a wired post light. Most people use post lights at the end of driveways or at the beginning of walkways.

Sconce lights also come in the same color choices as post lights and have many different styles. These lights mount onto the side of your house. They are most commonly used on either side of your front door. I prefer the look of one on both sides of the door, however, you will find that some houses have only a light only on one side.

If you have an over hang in your front door entrance, like commonly seen in a raised ranch style home, you may want to add a pendant or ceiling light. Pendant lights are very elegant and hang from a chain down from the ceiling above. Ceiling lights are similar to the ones you may find in your home, but are built for the outdoors.

Path lights and spot lights are also a great choice of exterior accents. Path lights typically light the way on a walk way or even garden path. They typically sit lower to the ground lighting the way. Spot lights are the best way to direct light onto features that you want to be more visible at night, like your front door or other focal point. Using lighting as exterior accents is a great investment as it will add curb appeal to your home, thus adding overall value to your home.
