According to this site, the poem is etched onto a fountain sculpture in Brisbane, Australia, just outside the Marriott Hotel. The sculpture itself is of an aboriginal boy.

I get the sense that it relates to the needs of aboriginal society, both past and present. The last line changes the mood of the poem completely, giving the reader a sense that love wasn’t the actual motive of her desire; rather substantive need.
