How to Remove vanity with lights and outlet attached to it?
In my guest bathroom the only lighting comes from the bulbs attached to the vanity mirror. The only outlet is attached to the vanity as well. There is no overhead lighting, only one of those flat ceiling fans for ventilation. When you turn on the light switch it automatically turns on the ventilation fan and the vanity lights. I want to replace the vent fan with an overhead light and want to replace the outdated vanity. How do I do this? The new vanity I have picked out does not have an electrical outlet on it, there fore there would be no where to plug anything into the wall. Also, how do I cap off the current wires that are running to the outdated vanity once I put the new one in? I don’t want electricity freely flowing. Also, is it east to replace the fan with a new overhead light and if so, how? Especially since the current fan is wired to the lights on the vanity…… if there are any experience electrician’s out there please help me out here! Thanks in advance!
You are going to have to do some drywall work,when you pull down the ceiling fan you will see there is a large hole where the housing fits into the ceiling.You will need to install a ceiling mounted electrical box rated for the new fixture.As far as the outlet you can put a junction box where the old connection is and run the line vertical and cut in a new box with a GFCI outlet.Good Luck
