My Yellow Bellied Turtle Has Got Yellow-brown ” Gunge ” In Its Eye?
I bought it 3 weeks ago and the pet shop owner told me that i didn’t need any heaters, lighting or warming devices for its tank. They also said that i didn’t need a filter but it would be better if i had one. When i bought it, both its eyes were closed pretty much most of the time and when it opened it, one eye was yellow-brown gunge and the other was white gunge. After endless hours of searching on the web, i found out i needed the things they said. I went to my nearest pet shop and bought:
– An Underwater Heater
– A UVB, Vitamin D3 Fleurescent Light
– A Fluval 2 Filter
–A 50W Basking Lamp
–Tonic Salts
This cost me £55 but it was worth it because after 1 day, the eye which had white gunge in it has cleared, however the one with the yellow-brown has not. Is there anything i am doing wrong or will this just go away in time if i continue to look after it correctly? thanks =]
What I would suggest is that it may have an eye infection due to under cleaned water, try buying a v high quality filter and if it doesn’t clear up after about a week then take it to a vets. Also all the stuff which you bought it is actually very essential for it’s general health, turtles are reptiles after all and need to bask to get their energy though I’m sure you know that already ^-^. Hope he gets well soon.
