You can also use emerald green arborvitae. It is easier to find in your area and won’t have to be special ordered like the green giant. It grows about three feet per year, as opposed to the three to five feet per year of the green giant, but will be available at a cheaper price for a much larger plant to begin with. If you love to garden, plant some azaleas, rhododendrons and hydrangea in front of the arborvitae, which acidifies the immediately surrounding soil, giving these acid loving plants a boost. They will create a nice secondary tier to the green backdrop of the arborvitae.

I have never had any trouble with Leyland Cypress, but I prefer the cover and form of the arborvitae.
